RATING:
Gloria Estefan seems like the "grandmother" of the current
Latin music revival because she has been around for so long,
but we don't think that is the case. She can be better described
as the guardian and chaperon of today's young Latin stars.
She started the Latin explosion years ago and helped pave
the way for today's young stars like Ricky Martin, Jennifer
Lopez and Marc Anthony.

She was criticized for being just a singer and her
husband and manager, Emilio Estefan, was credited as the
real talent behind her career, but her contributions to
recent albums, such as producing and writing some of her
songs, have left critics without water to wash down their
feet.

Some people say she never achieved the instant success and
audience captivation of Jennifer Lopez because she wasn't
sexy enough. So maybe she doesn't have Ms. Lopez's sizzle,

STATUS:
She was part of Miami Sound Machine, the group that initiated
her fame, before her own importance forced the band to change
their name to Gloria Estefan to better suit the kind of
pull she actually had within the music industry. She has
several Top 10 hits and has sold millions of albums despite
the label she carried for years, as a labelled ethnic singer.
